Global Commodity/Value Chains

Abstract: A global commodity chain (GCC) is made up of all the processes associated with the production of one good or service, including manufacturing, consumption, design, retailing, marketing, advertising, and disposal. The GCC approach traces the relationships between these sites, exploring the flow of value, money, symbols, and knowledge, and the ways in which GCCs are linked to uneven development. This entry reviews the literature on GCCs and later variations of this work, known as global value chain approaches.
