Global Cancer Consortiums: Moving from Consensus to Practice

Abstract: Implementation research should inform consensus formation, program delivery, and outcome monitoring to achieve the goals articulated by GCCs. Fundamental steps to successful implementation are: (1) to adopt an integrated, multisectoral plan with local involvement; (2) to define shared implementation priorities by establishing care pathways that avoid prescriptive but suboptimal health care delivery; (3) to build capacity through education, technology transfer, and surveillance of outcomes; and (4) to promote e… Show more

“…GCCs provide structure that organize existing information, capitalize on synergies, and work toward consensus of overarching core concepts while also allowing each organization to adapt based on their own needs and resources (Ilbawi & Anderson, ). The GCCs also provide the framework for effective implementation in the form of generalizable data; accepted standards of care; education; technology transfer; monitoring of outcomes; and engagement of diverse and equitable stakeholders including healthcare providers, community members, and governmental officials (Al‐Adsani et al, ; Ilbawi & Anderson, ; Trimble et al, ). Some key lessions for PND research are the importance of developing consensus guidelines, providing overarching frameworks that define best practices for each step of translational research from bench to biobanking to working with community organizations and government.…”
