Global Burden of Hypertension and Systolic Blood Pressure of at Least 110 to 115 mm Hg, 1990-2015

Abstract: IMPORTANCEElevated systolic blood (SBP) pressure is a leading global health risk. Quantifying the levels of SBP is important to guide prevention policies and interventions.OBJECTIVE To estimate the association between SBP of at least 110 to 115 mm Hg and SBP of 140 mm Hg or higher and the burden of different causes of death and disability by age and sex for 195 countries and territories, 1990-2015.DESIGN A comparative risk assessment of health loss related to SBP. Estimated distribution of SBP was based on 844… Show more

“…43 En México, la tensión arterial elevada es uno de los cinco principales factores de riesgo modificables para reducir los años de vida saludables perdidos. 44 Si observamos en la Ensanut MC 2016, la TAS promedio entre los participantes fue de 120.9 mmHg, lo cual indica que en los próximos años podría esperarse un gran efecto sobre las consecuencias asociadas con una TAS superior a 110 mmHg.…”

“…Our outcomes were selected fulfilling the OMERACT consensus group recommendation, which was specifically designed to address clinical characteristics of RMDs, and this may have over-valued their impact when compared to other NCDs. Additionally, in accordance with the GBD list of conditions, hypertension and osteoporosis are not considered as diseases per se, but instead classified as risk factors for cardiovascular conditions and RMDs [27,28], respectively. This may have decreased the true population impact of cardiovascular conditions and RMDs.…”
