“…Whereas the occurrence of Agulhas rings within this large area seems predictable, they provide localized, slowly moving foraging areas, resulting in irregular patterns in inter-annual variation of ocean productivity (Chavez & Messié 2009). In addition, sea surface temperature increases and primary productivity of the western part of the Ben gu ela declines during winter (Hardman-Mountford et al 2003, Longhurst 2006, O'Malley 2016. The skuas seem to respond to this by moving south-or eastwards within the Benguela, into the Agulhas or An go la Current, or to the Canary Current.…”

“…All relevant WOMBAT output and documentation for these experiments can be found in (Rohr, 2024). Remote sensing data sets can be found at (O’Malley, 2015). CMIP6 model output can be found at (Earth System Grid Federation, 2022).…”

“…This dataset includes sea-ice concentration from 1982 until 2010. Sea surface temperature data was obtained from MODIS for the period 2002(O'Malley, 2015. Remote sensing surface phytoplankton biomass is inferred from empirical relationships between living phytoplankton biomass (Graff et al, 2015) and the particle backscattering coefficient derived from the waterleaving radiance spectrum measured by the MODIS satellite (Westberry et al, 2008) for the period 2002-2014.…”
