Global and Regional Myocardial Function Quantification by Two-Dimensional Strain

Abstract: Two-dimensional strain is a new simple, rapid, and reproducible method to measure different components of systolic strain. This technique identified early abnormalities in patients with HCM that have apparently normal left ventricular systolic function.

“…Recent advances in the ability to measure LV strain have afforded the opportunity to characterize myocardial contractility in a wide range of experimental and clinical settings (6,10,11,25,35,37,44). Normal values and measurement variability data for this imaging modality have recently been published (18,42). Several recent studies have characterized resting LV strain and the impact of a single exercise session on LV strain in trained athletes (32)(33)(34).…”

“…Reported radial strain values in humans using tissue Doppler imaging range from 18 -48% (34,35). Peak radial strain was 39.6 Ϯ 8.9% using PC-MR in the shortaxis view in normal human volunteers (11).…”

“…30 A meta-analysis comparing DES vs BMS for saphenous grafts showed a lower incidence of major adverse cardiac events in the DES group over a 6-to 12-month period, mainly due to a reduction in target vessel revascularization. 31 Nevertheless, there is a paucity of data on PCI in grafts, whether in a stable or unstable condition, and few randomized trials of insufficient power and short-term followup.…”
