A preoccupation with heteronormative metrics of success in aging leaves many studies of “LGBT aging” focused on the needs, failings, and vulnerabilities of older LGBTQ2IA+ people (i.e. lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, two-spirit, intersex, asexual, and people of other nonnormative sexual and gender expressions). As a result, LGBTQ2IA+ olders are frequently depicted as isolated, re-closeted, or simply nonexistent. Heeding calls to intervene into such bleak and pathologizing portrayals of queer/ trans aging (e.g. Ramirez-Valles 2016; Sandberg & Marshall 2017), this article explores diverse subjectivities, nonnormative aging experiences, and their potential intergenerational implications. It draws on stories of queerness, gender, aging, futurity, and social change from 13 LGBTQ2IA+ people ranging in age from 23 to 74, recorded in an intergenerational research-generation workshop held in Nogojiwanong (Peterborough, Canada) in 2018. This article argues that queer and trans stories are crucial to confronting the erasure of LGBTQ2IA+ aging, aiming to extend ongoing efforts within aging studies to queer concepts of successful aging, aging futures, generativity, and intergenerationality. Ultimately, this article aims to complicate constricted understandings of queer/trans aging, instead of depicting LGBTQ2IA+ people aging with connection, pride, learning, and purpose, as well as with struggle and vulnerability.

Interseccionalidade é o termo cunhado no cerne do movimento feminista antirracista, e atualmente atribuído à conjunção de que formas de exclusão sociais se somam conforme condições identitárias de raça, gênero, sexualidade e classe social. Nessa conjuntura, negros e negras LGBTI+ tipificam agregar múltiplos preconceitos, como racismo e LGBTfobia, que afetam a qualidade de vida e interpõem consequências deletérias para seu envelhecimento, quando a idade surge como outro objeto de aversão social. Buscou-se, então, revisitar a literatura em diversas fontes, principalmente artigos científicos, visando a partir do aporte teórico da interseccionalidade produzir compreensões sobre a velhice de idosos negros LGBTI+. Discute-se que desigualdades raciais e sexuais coadunam com outras variáveis de vulnerabilidade social, ao que negros LGBTI+ obtém menor acesso a saúde, educação e proteção social, estando mais propensos a marginalização social na velhice que idosos brancos e heterossexuais. Apesar de não serem produzidos dados empíricos sobre o contexto brasileiro da velhice negra LGBTI+, espera-se contribuir para a expansão da literatura gerontológica sobre os aspectos psicossociais do envelhecimento desse grupo, ressaltando-se que políticas públicas devam ser constantemente reforçadas em prol da proteção de minorias sociais. A vista do avanço do envelhecimento populacional como fenômeno irrevogável, plural e dinâmico.

“…Services specifically addressing the needs of LGBT+ older adults may be a solution such as LGBT+ dementia care services (Fredriksen Goldsen et al., 2019; Opening Doors London, 2020), LGBT+ senior housing (Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development, 2020) and non‐governmental organisations, which are set up to advocate for the needs of LGBT+ older adults and provide support services (SAGE, 2020). However, these services may be hard to reach, or may not exist, in countries where it is not acceptable or safe to conduct research on, or to advocate for LGBT+ issues (Fredriksen Goldsen & de Vries, 2019).
