Glasses and Glass-Ceramics Prepared by Sol–Gel

Abstract: This review presents an insight on the advances in the Sol-gel route for preparation of glasses and glass-ceramics, considering the physical and chemical aspects governing the process. An overview of the most important developments and applications including Sol-gel coatings, appearing as the main technique used in optical as well as protective or photocatalytic applications. Biomaterials prepared by Sol-gel are also highlighted.
