Glass Transition Behaviors of Poly (Vinyl Pyridine)/Poly (Vinyl Phenol) Revisited

Abstract: We examined the composition and molecular weight dependence of the glass transition temperature in detail for two types of hydrogen bonding miscible blends: poly (2-vinyl pyridine)/poly (vinyl phenol) (2VPy/VPh) and poly (4-vinyl pyridine)/poly (vinyl phenol) (4VPy/VPh). Regarding the functional form of the glass transition temperature, Tg, as a function of the weight fraction, we found a weak deviation from the Kwei equation for 2VPy/VPh blends. In contrast, such a deviation was not observed for the 4VPy/VPh … Show more

“…This effect was also observed by Li et al [ 37 ] for the release of 5-FU from nanoparticles based on poly(ethylene glycol)-b-poly(benzyl-L-glutamate) (PEG-b-PBLG). At this point it is also important to notice that 5-FU can form hydrogen bonds with the nitrogen of the P2VP groups [ 38 , 39 ]. Although it is not very pronounced, for all the analyzed samples, a less intense “burst effect” was observed in Figure 2 .…”

“…Poly(4-vinylpyridine) (PVP) is a linear polymer with pendant pyridine groups that can be used in a variety of applications, such as surface modification, by immobilizing atoms or particles, electrochemical sensors [ 20 ], fabrication of antibacterial surfaces, development of pH sensitive systems, 3D molecular level ordering systems, anti-corrosive coatings and even dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) and light-emitting diodes [ 21 , 22 , 23 , 24 , 25 , 26 , 27 , 28 , 29 ]. Positively charged polypyridines constitute a unique class of compounds in which quaternization enables the introduction of permanent positive charges into the backbone, resulting in electron delocalization phenomena that are attributed to the existence of electron-rich pyridines and electron-poor pyridiniums [ 30 , 31 , 32 , 33 ].…”
