Glass‐Forming Ability, Recent Trends, and Synthesis Methods of Metallic Glasses

Abstract: In this chapter, fundamentals of glass formation thermodynamics, glass‐forming ability of alloys, empirical rules for enhancing glass‐forming ability, and unique atomic clusters structure stabilizing supercooled liquid are presented. The heteroamorphous alloys, drawing much attention recently due to their unusual performance, are introduced. Some typical synthesis methods for producing metallic glass ribbon, bulk and powder, and important factors affecting metallic glass formation are described.
