Glasgow prognostic score can be a prognostic indicator after percutaneous coronary intervention: a two-center study in Japan

Abstract: Glasgow prognostic score (GPS) has been used to evaluate inflammatory response and nutritional status. This study aimed to investigate the impact of nutritional status on cardiac prognosis by using GPS in patients after undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). We included 862 patients who underwent PCI for stable angina pectoris between 2015 and 2018. We used the original cutoff values, which were an albumin (Alb) level of 3.5 g/dl and a C-reactive protein (CRP) level of 0.3 mg/dl. We categorized t… Show more

“…BMI was the clinically important and simplest assessment of nutritional status, and a BMI <18.5 kg/m 2 was considered malnutrition [ 30 ]. Albumin was a routine hematological indicator of malnutrition biomarker, and patients were considered malnourished when their serum albumin <35 g/L [ 31 ]. Previous studies have demonstrated that low BMI and low serum albumin levels were significant independent predictors of increased long-term mortality [ 21 , 22 , 32 , 33 ].…”

“…The GPS was first proposed by Forrest et al, who found that the GPS was effective in predicting the survival of non-small cell lung cancer patients [33]. In recent years, some studies found that it also had predictive value for the survival of AMI [10][11][12]34]. Our previous study [11] compared different versions of GPS using receiver operating curve (ROC), and this present version of GPS could more effectively predict cardiovascular risk in patients with AMI, which was used as the scoring standard for this study.…”

“…In the present study, cardiovascular events were frequently observed in patients with "radiation therapyrelated" and "malignancy" causes. The potential underlying mechanisms include existing inflammation owing to malnutrition 14) and radiation attributed to atherosclerosis, 15) in addition to the fact these groups were more likely to have a history of smoking. Limitations: This study has several limitations.…”
