Improvement of the sound environment is essential for improving the overall quality of the urban environment and for reflecting the characteristics of a city. Unfortunately, some soundscapes in cities are gradually being destroyed by the rapid development. Therefore, it would appear that the preservation of soundscapes is as necessary and crucial as noise control in cities. In this paper, two field studies were carried out at two stages to explore the types and characteristics of urban soundscapes that should be preserved, based on the example of Tianjin, China. At stage one, 2504 respondents participated in social surveys to recommend the soundscapes worthy of preservation in the city. At stage two, a group soundscape walk with twenty-three participants was carried out to explore the characteristics of soundscapes worthy of preservation suggested by the respondents at the first stage. The following results were obtained: (1) regarding the attitude towards the urgency of soundscape preservation, 79% of the respondents thought it was urgent or very urgent, with an average score of 4.04 (five-point numeric scale was used and five meant very urgent). (2)The majority of soundscapes worthy of preservation were located in urban parks and historic districts with respective proportions of 66% and 20%. The top three sound source categories of these soundscapes were social/communal sounds (talking, bells, laughter, and sounds from human activities), animal sounds (birdsong and sounds from non-domesticated animals) and water sounds.(3) Relaxation, vibrancy, representativeness, strength, and richness were principal characteristics of the soundscapes worthy of preservation. (4) Based on their characteristics, these soundscapes were classified into five clusters using hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA). They were clusters of relaxing nature soundscape, vibrant nature soundscape, vibrant human activity soundscape, culture-related soundscape and traditional soundscape. The dominant characteristic of each cluster was driven by its sound mark rather than the dominant sound.

The purpose of this research is to measure daily tour service quality and customer satisfaction. It aims to understand the nature of relationship between these two constructs. Data were collected from 193 participants of daily tours in Dubrovnik city area using DAILYSERV scale. To examine the influence of daily tour service quality dimensions on overall service quality and on overall satisfaction, multiple regression analysis was performed. Significant and positive effects of daily tour service quality dimensions on overall service quality and on overall satisfaction were detected. Dimensions “activities carried out” and “transportation” have the highest impact on daily tour overall service quality. In addition, tour guide and activities carried out are the most critical daily tour features that significantly influence overall satisfaction with daily tour. Thus, daily tour operators should invest in these dimensions to enhance overall service quality and customer satisfaction.

In recent years, rural tourism has become a hot topic in the academia. Many researchers have proposed to alleviate the poverty of farmers and revitalize rural areas through rural tourism. This paper fully quantifies the tourism environmental carrying capacity (TECC) of Diaoshuihu National Forest Park (DNFP), and evaluates the current status of rural tourism near the scenic spot. Four criteria were selected according to the actual situation of the scenic spot. The TECC of the DNFP was evaluated by Pascal's Principle and then through analytic hierarchy process (AHP). Based on the evaluation results, several suggestions were put forward to promote the scenic spot-based rural tourism in and around the DNFP. The results show that the TECC of the DNFP was 6,160 persons, the annual TECC was 985,600 person/year, indicating that the scenic spot is under weak load. The local government is advised to optimize the design and implementation of DNFP-based rural tourism from four aspects: enhancing the integration between scenic spot and nearby villages, rationalizing the income distribution system, training talents for scenic spot-based rural tourism, and stepping up government guidance on rural tourism. The research results provide a reference for similar cases of scenic spot-driven rural tourism.
