GIS Applications for Building 3D Campus, Utilities and Implementation Mapping Aspects for University Planning Purposes

Abstract: Abstract:In city planning managing, the third dimension is becoming a necessity. Using 3D GIS modeling offers a flexible interactive system while providing one of the best visual interpretation of data which supports planning and decision processes for city planners. As a result, 3D GIS model expresses terrain features in an intuitive way which enhances the management and analysis of a proposed project through 3D visualization. This paper discusses the concept of 3D GIS modeling techniques using a simple proce… Show more

“…3D GIS works by extending 2D GIS that consists of X and Y components of coordinates with another dimension typically the Z coordinates that contain the height information [42]. Analysts may also substitute the third dimension with other information such as temporal information (2D+t) for the recognition of trends for any phenomenon.…”

“…By adhering to 3D modelling of a city, it becomes easy to visualize the city/campus and understand the space constraints in the area. The 3D tools in the GIS system are used to simulate the functions of the buildings [1] . Apart from automation technology and Radar, GIS technology finds application in safety management.…”

“…This methodology of work can also be applied to the management of infrastructure networks, to perform graphical analysis and interactive data visualizations, to simulate real working environments, even remotely. (Al-Rawabdeh, et al, 2014). The boost to provide data to all users and to create cities suitable to the needs of citizens, led the European Community to launch the i-SCOPE project, "Interoperable Smart City services through an Open Platform for urban Ecosystems".…”
