Decision on trade policies with emphasis on bilateral trade relationships needs knowledge about the direction of exports of the exporting country along with associated changes like degree of specialisation, etc. The direction of export for a product or sector can be taken as a set consisting of destination countries (DCs) and corresponding export potentiality. The set reflects the direction, composition and value of trade potentials and helps to decide export-boosting measures of several sectors, focusing on a country. The paper suggests the use of ratio and geometrically aggregated revealed comparative advantage (RCA) values for individual and combined sector growth (positive or negative), respectively. This approach overcomes the static properties of RCA and shift-share analysis typically used to reveal the patterns of trade direction. The pattern is investigated by geometric aggregation of ratios of RCA at the current period over the base period for each sector. The index follows log-normal distribution and shows fluctuations of RCA for a product/sector across time. Such curves of fluctuations for different countries may facilitate meaningful inter-country comparisons. Second, this paper suggests the use of bilateral RCA to determine the direction of India’s exports for a particular sector, enabling the determination of its potential markets. This research aimed to identify the key economic sectors that could uplift Musi Rawas Utara Regency from its underdeveloped status within Sumatra Selatan Province. The study employed a descriptive-analytical approach, which included analyzing primary sectors using the Location Quotient (LQ) method, determining leading sectors through Shift Share analysis, and assessing the contribution of the primary highest-value industry using Intra-Regional analysis. Among the 17 sectors contributing to the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), five were identified as primary sectors in Musi Rawas Utara Regency, with a significant dominance of the Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries sectors. However, Shift Share analysis revealed two leading sectors: education and health services with social activities. We identified seven potential sectors: industrial, infrastructure, and developing sectors. Developing sectors include agriculture, forestry, fisheries, mining and quarrying, and education. Meanwhile, five sectors were considered underdeveloped: the processing industry, construction, transportation and trade, financial services and insurance, government administration, defense, and taxpayer social security. LQ analysis emphasized that the agricultural and forestry sector is the primary sector in Musi Rawas Utara Regency, with palm oil production being a vital contributor. For the development of palm oil, Nibung and Karang Dapo districts require particular attention. Given Musi Rawas Utara Regency's disadvantaged status, optimizing agricultural sector development is crucial. By focusing on this sector, the region can enhance its economic performance, ultimately aiming to overcome its underdeveloped status and improve its financial outlook.

Serbian Export to the Eu Market: A Dynamic Shift-Share Analysis

The paper deals with the analysis of Serbian export competitiveness in regards to the EU market in the period between 2012 and 2021, using the location quotient and dynamic shift-share analysis, which breaks down changes in exports into three components: the national, the industrial, and the regional component. The results show that EU countries are suitable destinations for Serbian products. Also, products from several Serbian sectors are attractive in the European market. The location quotient shows that the most important export destinations are Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania, and Slovenia. The dynamic shift-share analysis results show that there was an increase in the competitiveness of Serbian exports to the European Union market in the observed period, mostly thanks to the national component. The regional component is expressed in some countries, such as Poland and Hungary, while the industrial component is the least represented.
