Ginkgolide C reduced oleic acid-induced lipid accumulation in HepG2 cells

Abstract: Ginkgolide C, isolated from Ginkgo biloba, is a diterpene lactone that has multiple biological functions and can improve Alzheimer disease and platelet aggregation. Ginkgolide C also inhibits adipogenesis in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. The present study evaluated whether ginkgolide C reduced lipid accumulation and regulated the molecular mechanism of lipogenesis in oleic acid-induced HepG2 hepatocytes. HepG2 cells were treated with 0.5 mM oleic acid for 48 h to induce a fatty liver cell model. Then, the cells were expo… Show more

“…Moreover, Ginkgolide C stimulated the production of adipose triglyceride lipase and hormone-sensitive lipase, leading to elevated lipolysis levels (Liou et al, 2015). Similar results were obtained with human HepG2 hepatocyte cell line (Huang et al, 2018).…”

“…A similar protective response of SKK was earlier observed by us in HepG2 cells treated with carbon tetrachloride [ 19 ]. Plant metabolites comprising of rotenoids, catechin, gallic acid, quercetin, rutin, corilagin, and caffeic acid play a major role in the hepatoprotective role of SKK against a wide range of liver ailments [ 19 , 35 , 36 , 37 , 38 ].…”

“…GAPDH was used as a loading control. Finally, the membrane was incubated with horseradish peroxidase-conjugated secondary antibodies (1:5000) at room temperature for 1 h. After three washes, the chemiluminescence signals were developed using an ECL (Enhanced Chemiluminescent) detection kit (PerkinElmer, Shelton, CT, USA), and the density of bands was counted using ImageJ gel analysis software [ 50 ].…”
