“…Overall, these results provide clinical evidence for antioxidant molecules in tinnitus that should not be ignored. The dietary supplement studied contains Ginko biloba, the effectiveness of which on tinnitus is still uncertain, as concluded by the latest Cochrane review [33]. It should be noted that the poor quality of the 12 RCTs included in this systematic review meant that no further conclusions could be drawn.…”

“… Polanski et al (2016) studied in a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial 58 elderly subjects with tinnitus and associated sensorineural hearing loss treated with G. biloba dry extract (120 mg/day) and several other antioxidants and did not find any benefit from the treatment. In a recent Cochrane Database review of 12 studies with 1915 participants ( Sereda et al, 2022 ), the authors concluded that there is uncertainty about the benefits and harms of G. biloba for the treatment of tinnitus when compared to placebo.…”

“…G. biloba studies in the treatment of tinnitus are listed in Table 1 . Though G. biloba extract has been investigated for the treatment of tinnitus in a number of clinical studies, including RCTs, its efficacy remains inconclusive or questionable according to recent meta-analyses ( Mahmoudian-Sani et al, 2017 ; Kramer and Ortigoza, 2018 ; Spiegel et al, 2018 ; Sereda et al, 2022 ). An early randomized study of 259 patients with tinnitus of less than 1 year duration showed that G. biloba extract ( Meyer, 1986 ) reduced the severity of tinnitus in 70% of the patients.…”
