Gibberellic acid promotes selenium accumulation in Cyphomandra betacea under selenium stress

Abstract: The selenium (Se) deficiency is threatening the human health, and the increase of Se content in food can prevent the Se deficiency of human body. To increase the Se content in fruit trees and alleviate the Se stress to fruit trees, the effects of gibberellic acid (GA) on the growth and Se accumulation in Cyphomandra betacea under Se stress were studied. Although GA increased the biomass of C. betacea, it did not significantly affect the root/shoot ratio. The root and shoot biomass had a quadratic polynomial re… Show more

“…6 There are some agronomic measures have been used to promote the Se uptake by crops from soil, including intercropping, straw extracts, and phytohormones. [7][8][9][10][11][12] Because of crop diversity in agricultural production and the various environmental conditions, these methods have not been widely adopted. So, screening out additional methods for promoting the Se uptake in crops is necessary.…”

“…However, the excessive application of Se fertilizers can be toxic to crops 6 . There are some agronomic measures have been used to promote the Se uptake by crops from soil, including intercropping, straw extracts, and phytohormones 7–12 . “…Previous studies have demonstrated that exogenous GA 3 significantly improves the photosynthetic pigment content, photosynthetic efficiency, soluble substance content, and antioxidase activities. Concurrently, it increases the fresh weight and plant height, subsequently promoting plant growth [2,[7][8][9][10][11].…”
