“…The considerable decrease in the I 1 /I 3 value from 1.88 to 1.35 was observed with the formation of DMEB micelles, suggesting the micellar micropolarity similar to the polarity of methanol (I 1 /I 3 =1.30 in methanol). The inflection point in was estimated to be 3.9 mM, which is consistent with the CMC (3.9 mM) of DMEB reported by S. Roy et al 15) . In contrast, no inflection point was obser ved for FC 8 DAB because the location of pyrene would be close to the micelle surface owing to the low affinity of pyrene for fluorocarbon chain.…”

“…The CMC values of FC 8 DAB are in fair agreement with the experimental values determined by the conductivity (1.9 mM from our experimental data) and SPQ fluorescence quenching method (1.85 mM) 8) . The a value of DMEB (0.28) was much larger than 0.18 of dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide micelle owing to the bulky ephedrine group 15) . The I/I 0 value for FC 8 NBD in methanol was in accordance with that for DMENBD in ethanol according to our experimental data (I/I 0 = 12 for both cases), while in micellar systems, the I/I 0 = 6 for FC 8 DAB was considerably lower than I/I 0 = 15 for DMEB.…”

“…The T K value of DB is included in Table 1. It can be observed that the T K value of DB is much higher than that of DTAB but less than that of DMEB (∼28 • C) [7]. The rise in T K is obviously due to the larger headgroup in the former surfactant.…”

“…Recently, we have studied the aggregation behavior of (-)-N -dodecyl-N -methylephedrinium bromide, DMEB, in aqueous medium [7]. The DMEB surfactant was found to form vesicular aggregates above room temperature (∼28 • C).…”
