Giant primary liposarcoma of the anterior mediastinum

Abstract: Rationale:Liposarcoma is a cancerous mesenchymal tumor and the most common soft-tissue sarcoma that starts in the adipose tissue. “…LPS mostly occurs in the extremities, followed by the retroperitoneum. There have also been reports of LPS in rare locations, such as the mediastinum, larynx, or para-testicular tissue [ 20 22 ]. The high occurrence in the retroperitoneum may be attributed to metastasis of LPS from other parts of the body, especially those where fat is abundant [ 1 , 2 , 23 ].…”

“…[5] LPS mostly occurs in extremities, followed by retroperitoneum, and there are also literatures reporting LPS founded in rare locations, such as mediastinum, larynx or paratesticular. [20][21][22] High occurrence of retroperitoneum may be attributed to metastasis of LPS from other parts of body, especially where fat is abundant. [1,2,23] Primary retroperitoneal LPS usually originates in the perirenal fat, and there were 19 (33%) perirenal LPS or LPS directly invading kidney in our cohort.…”
