Abstract:In this study, bulk samples of multiferroic with compositional formula, BiFeO 3 and Bi 0.825 A 0.175 FeO 3 (A = La, Pb), were synthesized by solid state reaction route. X-ray diffraction (XRD) along with the Rietveld refinement revealed the distorted rhombohedral (R3c) structure for pristine BiFeO 3 and Bi 0.825 La 0.175 FeO 3 and tetragonal (P4/mmm) for Bi 0.825 Pb 0.175 FeO 3 ceramic. To support the structural results, bond length between atoms for both of the compounds was calculated. A change in Raman mode position in BiFeO 3 (BFO) has been observed with La and Pb substitution from Raman scattering measurements and also recommended a structural change with rare earth and metal ion substitution at Bi site. From the frequency dependent dielectric constant and dielectric loss plots, a decrease in dielectric values with increase in frequency was observed for both of the samples. For microelectronic devices, porous ceramics with lower value of dielectric constant are most useful. Thus, further studies are also needed to carefully tune the magnetoelectric properties and structural distortion after La/Pb substitution in BFO.

The polycrystalline samples of 0.8BiSm x Fe 1Àx O 3 -0.2PbTiO 3 (x ¼ 0:05; 0:10; 0:15 and 0.20) were prepared by using the conventional solid-state reaction technique and sintered at high temperature (850 C). X-ray diffraction (XRD) confirms the distorted rhombohedral crystal structure for all the composites at room temperature. The surface morphology was checked by field-emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) technique and homogeneous mixing of the components was confirmed by energydispersive analysis of X-ray (EDAX). The detailed study of dielectric properties of the composites reveals an increasing nature of dielectric constant (" r ) and loss tangent (tan) with the increase of temperature due to thermal activation. The Arrhenius plots of temperature dependence of AC conductivity yield the activation energy within the material at high-temperature range. The ferroelectric study shows that the remnant polarization decreases with the increase of Samarium (Sm) concentration.

Экспериментально исследованы магнитные свойства мультиферроиков, полученных при изовалентном замещении в BiFeO3 катионов висмута катионами самария. Образцы синтезированы методом твердофазных реакций в условиях холодного прессования при высоком (4 GPa) давлении. На основании анализа экспериментальных данных установлены корреляции структуры и магнитных свойств мультиферроиков.
