“…It has been used as a marker of cerebrospinal fluid leakage since it is an important constituent of cerebral spinal fluid and is in much lower concentrations in blood [12]. Many studies have described and compared the diagnostic performance of BTP with the traditional markers of CKD [13][14][15], reporting that increased urinary and systemic BTP concentrations were highly correlated with creatinine and cystatin C concentrations [16,17]; moreover, the urinary concentration of BTP progressively increased, along with GFR reduction, and with a rise in its serum concentration [16]. A study conducted by Motawi et al (2017) showed that serum BTP was higher in type 2 diabetes (T2D) CKD patients with microalbuminuria than in patients with normoalbuminuria, suggesting the potential of BTP in the early diagnosis of diabetic nephropathy [18].…”
