Gesünder nach der Psychotherapie? Sekundärdatenanalyse der Arbeitsunfähigkeitszeiten vor und nach ambulanter Verhaltenstherapie, tiefenpsychologisch fundierter und analytischer Psychotherapie

Abstract: Patients undergoing psychoanalysis differ from patients who underwent other types of psychotherapy in terms of their duration of sickness absence as well as socio-demographic profile. Thus, due to differences in the composition of patients future research in psychotherapy will have to differentiate by type of psychotherapy.

“…This difference was found when controlled for age and sex or when indicators of impairment were additionally included as covariates. The observed reduction in sick leave is generally consistent with the reported reduction after outpatient psychotherapy ( 54 , 57 ), inpatient psychosomatic rehabilitation in Germany ( 80 ), and other interventions that aim at reducing sickness absence ( 33 ). Regression analyses also showed significantly elevated sick-leave days across time for participants who received a recommendation for inpatient treatment (compared with PSIW sufficient) and for participants who had previously seen a mental health specialist or other practitioner due to mental health issues (compared with no previous contacts).…”

“…PSIW participants showed a mean of 65 sick-leave days in the year before PSIW. In comparison, a mean of 16–18 sick-leave days per year for employees in the metal works sector ( 74 ) or 27–49 sick-leave days in the year before outpatient psychotherapy ( 54 , 75 ) were reported. Although representative international samples found doubled days of sick leave or reduced workability in subjects with mental illness compared with those without ( 8 , 76 79 ), the numbers in our sample seem high.…”

“…on sick leave using claims data (Epping et al, 2018). Compared to meta-analyses (Nieuwenhuijsen et al, 2020;Nigatu et al, 2016;Salomonsson et al, 2018), our results suggest stronger reductions in sick leave and, thus, possibly more positive effects for psychotherapies.…”

“…In the included studies, most interventions consisted of workrelated interventions focusing on return-to-work or behavioral therapy (BT). To our knowledge, only few studies exist on the effects of psychodynamic therapy (PDT) on sick leave (Burnand, Andreoli, Kolatte, Venturini, & Rosset, 2002;Epping, de Zwaan, & Geyer, 2018;Knekt, Lindfors, Sares-Jäske, Virtala, & Härkänen, 2013).…”
