German version of the Snaith-Hamilton-Pleasure Scale (SHAPS-D): Assessing anhedonia in schizophrenic patients

Abstract: Most of the authors use a dimensional approach to describe relationships between schizophrenic symptoms and cognitive variables (Liddle 1991). But, because symptomatic dimensions may overlap, distinguishable cognitive impairments may be difficult to identify (Norman 1997).The Aim: of the study was to characterize the cognitive functioning in homogeneous symptomatic subgroups of schizophrenic patients. We have tested the hypothesis that subtypes suffering from specific cognitive impairments may be individualize… Show more

“…This corresponds with previous findings in depressed and schizophrenic patients and healthy volunteers, respectively. Our data support the finding of a one-dimensional structure of SHAPS-D which we found in other populations before [20] and confirm findings with the original version [18]. The SHAPS-D has been found to be a useful change measure regarding subjectively experienced anhedonia in patients with PD.…”

“…Anhedonia was assessed by the German version of the selfrating Snaith-Hamilton-Pleasure-Scale (SHAPS-D) (range 0 -14, higher values representing more severe anhedonia; cut-off score for anhedonia ! 3) [18,19].…”

“…Correlation between different variables is depicted in table 3. Scores of both SDS [17]and SHAPS-D [15,16], which specifically measures self-reported anhedonia, showed a negative correlation with duration of repetitive movements. SHAPS-D scores also correlated negatively with the number (count) of repetitive movements.…”

“…Controls and patients judged their subjectively experienced symptoms by completing the Snaith-Hamilton Pleasure Scale (German version, SHAPS-D, range 0-14, higher numbers indicating greater anhedonia) [15,16] and the Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS, SDS index range 0-100, higher numbers indicating greater depression) [17]. Psychomotor retardation was rated by the Widlöcher Depressive Retardation Scale (WDRS, range 0-60, higher numbers indicating greater psychomotor retardation) [18].…”
