“…In Mohamed Nadjib Boukhatem and colleagues' study [44], essential oil of rose geranium (RGEO), whose major components were citronellol (29.13%), GE (12.62%), and citronellyl formate (8.06%), was administered orally in three different doses to mice, 10, 100, or 1,000 mg/kg and the results indicated that RGEO might have significant potential for the development of novel anti-inflammatory drugs with improved safety profile. Muthukumaran and colleagues' study [45] showed that A C C E P T E D M A N U S C R I P T ACCEPTED MANUSCRIPT 15 chronically treatment with GE (100 mg/kg) for 12 weeks on animals did not significantly activate the key inflammatory cytokine, NF-κB in liver, heart and aorta tissues. Considering the relative safety of GE which has already been considered and proved in many previous researches, we spent much effort further in investigating the alleviative effects of GE in pathological conditions so as to support the treatment effects of GE and provide scientific supports for the widely usage of GE clinically.…”

“…Stephen et al reported that oxidative events also alter the behavior of collagen fibers, increasing their stiffness (43). Dietary fat that increases lipid peroxidation might also nurture the aortic remodeling through enhanced inflammatory reaction (44). …”

“…8 Furthermore, it was found that treatment with geraniol counteracted the hyperlipidemia, improved endothelial function, and prevented fibrosis in experimental hyperlipidemic hamsters. [9][10][11] In addition, treatment with geraniol attenuated nimesulide-induced hepatotoxicity in rats. 12 Rodents fed with a methionine-choline-deficient (MCD) diet develop a steatohepatitis producing hepatic lesions and changes in liver redox balance, which mimics the impairment observed in patients with NASH.…”

“…It was reported that geraniol ameliorated fructose‐induced metabolic syndrome, reduced serum transaminases, and attenuated hepatic malondialdehyde (MDA) formation .
