Geomorphic attributes involved in sustainable ecosystem management scenarios for the Ignis-Gutai Mountains Romania

Abstract: Aim : Methodology :Results : I n t e r p r e t a t i o n :The paper presents the geomorphic attributes involved in a scenario for sustainable ecosystem management in several protected areas of Ignis-Gutai Mountains Romania.Geoforms are frequently used to substantiate decisions or to communicate impact assessment tools, due to their supporting role and to the readable features on maps. The present study used a multi-scale and layered approach, forged for the goals of the local stakeholders (including discussion… Show more

“…Knowledge of the culture-historical evolution, the relief physiognomy formation and anthropogenic-natural interactions to specific geomorphic settings in a particular area contributes to the local landscape management, geoheritage promotion and geotourism development (e.g., Coratza et al 2012, Migon and Goudie 2012, Thomas 2012, Zwoliński, Stachowiak 2012, Ilieş et al 2017. The Sary-Arka region of NE Kazakhstan has a major potential in this respect (Zhensikbayeva et al 2017(Zhensikbayeva et al , 2018.…”

“…2a-c) (Swarbrookeet al 2003). Overall, the KKSNP has the best preconditions for the geo-tourism industry in the frame of the regional eco-tourism management highly competitive with other mountain regions of the World (Newsome and Bowling 2010;Harns et al 2017;Ilieş et al 2017;Saarinen et al 2017).…”

“…Separated by mountain passes from the neighbouring units (Huta 587 m, Gutâi 984 m, Neteda 1039 m) they are two separate units distinguished by geoforms originating from different types of volcanic activity: Ignis mountains as andesitic plateau, mostly stratified, with small depressions, an end cliff and residual forms, named rocks (Piatra Săpânţei, Piatra Goală, Piatra Rea etc); Gutâi Mountains with pyroxene andesite, mostly vertical columns with a controversial neck -Creasta Cocoşului and cone shaped summits (Figure 1). On the northern limit of the mountains, a piedmont range forms contact with the Maramureş lowland, often associated with the mountain range due to the position of the settlements around the massifs (Ilies et al 2017). The Gutâi Mountains have several higher regions: Gutâiul Mare (1443 m), Creasta Cocoșului (1395 m), Trei Apostoli (1398 m), Gutâiul Doamnei (1426 m) and Secătura (1390 m).…”
