Geometric strategies for neuroanatomic analysis from MRI

Abstract: In this paper, we describe ongoing work in the Image Processing and Analysis Group (IPAG) at Yale University specifically aimed at the analysis of structural information as represented within magnetic resonance images (MRI) of the human brain. Specifically, we will describe our applied mathematical approaches to the segmentation of cortical and subcortical structure, the analysis of white matter fiber tracks using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), and the intersubject registration of neuroanatomical (aMRI) data … Show more

“…The sustained effects of rehearsal were similarly coded by convolving a block-length boxcar function with this gamma function (Boynton et al, 1996;Visscher et al, 2003). Prior to across-subjects comparisons, fMRI data were spatially normalized to standard stereotactic space using an affine transformation (Duncan et al, 2004). Group by smoking condition interaction effects on task-related activation were assessed using voxelwise mixed-model repeated-measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) (Woods, 1996;Kirk, 1982;Holmes and Friston, 1998), with group assignment as a between-subjects variable, smoking condition as a within-subjects variable, and subject treated as random effect within each group.…”

“…Electrode locations were identified in a high-resolution postoperative brain CT, and then transformed onto a high-resolution preoperative brain MRI by volumetrically coregistering the preoperative and postoperative scans in Bioimage Suite. 22 One or more viewpoint snapshots were then aggregated into a single image to visualize functional activations relative to individual anatomy.…”

“…Results were masked and converted back into ANALYZE format for viewing in BioImage Suite. Whole-brain, voxel-based correlation analyses with plasma glucose and cortisol levels were implemented using BioImageSuite (41,42) with the application of AFNI AlphaSim family-wise error (FWE) correction for multiple comparisons. All data analyses were based on 2-tailed tests.…”
