The oil and gas potential prospects of the Magnitogorsk trough in the South Urals were studied and substantiated using the data of the geological survey and deep-well drilling. Based on the results of the seismic, gravity, and magnetic explorations, a large unit was detected in the Lower-Middle Carboniferous carbonates of the Kizil zone. The oil and gas blowouts were registered in the drill holes. To further explore the oil and gas potential of the region, the features of black shales were analyzed. It was shown that the Kumak ore field shales are promising sources of oil, depression analogues of the Lower-Middle Carboniferous shelf carbonates. Therefore, we recommend that the black shales of the South Urals should be further studied for their oil and gas potential. The major tasks for future research are as follows: localization of facies of the carbonate sedimentation basin within the Magnitogorsk trough and the East Urals uplift, as well as development of its geological and geophysical model; assessment of the oil and gas potential prospects of the region with the help of the developed model; substantiation of regional CMP seismic surveys.

Geochemical peculiarities of carbonaceous shalesThe ore-enclosing strata in the Kumak field represent mostly carbon-bearing siltstone and carbonaceous-clayey shale. The elemental composition features the increased contents of MgO (0.60-6.42%), TiO 2 (0.29-1.89%) and Al 2 O 3 (9.40-31.50%), and, accordingly, the increased hydrolyzate module (>0.55 units) and alumosilicic module (0.77 units, average 0.38 units). Lithochemically, they conform with siallite and super aluminum hydrolyzate rocks associated with residuum and including high percentage of volcanogenic material [19]. и их взвешенного материала на диаграммах (La / Yb) N - Eu / Eu* и (La / Yb) N - Th. Пробы первых подверглись специальной обработке. Пробы вторых перед исследованием не были обработаны. Установлено, что точки состава обеих выборок на перечисленных выше диаграммах локализованы в поле тонкой (пелитовой) фракции донных осадков современных крупных рек, демонстрируя некоторый разброс для конкретных рек, но в целом не выходя за его пределы. Это дает дополнительное основание считать, что для расшифровки категорий рек, сформировавших те или иные осадочные последовательности, могут быть использованы не только специальным образом подготовленные пробы, но и данные, полученные по валовым / никак не обработанным образцам. На примере тонкой взвеси р. Замбези рассмотрены некоторые особенности использования диаграмм (La / Yb) N - Eu / Eu* и (La / Yb) N - Th.
