Geological position, mineral assemblages and contamination of granitic pegmatites in the Moldanubian Zone, Czech Republic; examples from the Vlastějovice region

Abstract: Three groups of pegmatites distinct in their geological position, age, internal structure, mineral assemblages and chemical composition of minerals (tourmaline, amphibole, garnet, and biotite) were distinguished in the Vlastějovice region, Moldanubian Zone: a) tourmaline-bearing pegmatites (Qz + Kfs + Pl + Bt + Ms + Tur) enclosed in the pre-Variscan orthogneiss, b) contaminated amphibole-bearing pegmatites (Pl + Qz + Amp + Kfs + fluorite + allanite) hosted by the Fe-skarn, and c) tourmaline-bearing pegmatites … Show more

“…Like the the Mount Begbie pegmatites, the Bory pegmatites contain abundant tourmaline, occurrences of Fe,Mn-phosphate minerals, Li-rich sekaninaite (Černý et al 1997(Černý et al ), P-bearing garnet (Breiter et al 2005, and minerals indicating a relatively low pressure of emplacement (andalusite, petalite, sekaninaite;Novák et al 2013). Pegmatites in the Bory district and also elsewhere in the Moldanubian Unit feature high W in columbite and Nb-rutile, and their exsolution products (e.g., Černý et al 2007Černý et al , Novák et al 2008.…”

“…Similar compositional trends were found in beryl from primitive or contaminated pegmatites: the Bountiful Beryl dike in Arizona (Schaller et al 1962, Aurisicchio et al 1988), Mount Cervadonne, d'Ossola Valley, the Alps (Aurisicchio et al 1988, Guastoni et al 2006, the Western Carpathians, Slovakia (Uher & Broska 1995, Uher et al 2010, and Elba Island (Aurisicchio et al 2012). Primitive characteristics of the examined beryl samples may reflect a low degree of fractionation of the host pegmatite (Beryller), a high degree of external Mg-contamination from host metabasites in thin pegmatite dikes (Kovářová, Boněnov; see Novák et al 2013), or a combination of both. High contents of Mg in beryl from the Kožichovice II pegmatite (Table 6, Fig.…”
