Abstract: Active alluvium (Holocene)-Sand and fine to coarse gravel of active washes and fan surfaces. Near Sierra Nevada front, forms floors of channels (too narrow to show at map scale) incised into older deposits Eolian sand (Holocene)-Primarily plant-stabilized sand sheets that only locally are thicker than 2 m. Areas of small dunes indicated by stipple.
