Geohazards Monitoring and Assessment Using Multi-Source Earth Observation Techniques

Abstract: Geological disasters are responsible for the loss of human lives and for significant economic and financial damage every year. Considering that these disasters may occur anywhere—both in remote and/or in highly populated areas—and anytime, continuously monitoring areas known to be more prone to geohazards can help to determine preventive or alert actions to safeguard human life, property and businesses. Remote sensing technology—especially satellite-based—can be of help due to its high spatial and temporal cov… Show more

“…b. Establish a global mapping function: Determine the correction mathematical model based on the geometric distortion properties of the image and the number of ground control points, and establish the spatial transformation relationship between the image and the ground coordinate system, such as polynomial method, collinear equation method, and random field interpolation method [3] .…”

“…China's mainland is located at the intersection of the Alpine-Himalayan and Circum-Pacific seismic zones, where destructive earthquakes occur frequently [25]. Seismicity in China's mainland is characterized by high frequency, wide distribution, great intensity, shallow seismic focus, and clear regional differences.…”

“…The latest studies incorporate socio-economic data into UEQ calculations [ [45] , [46] , [47] ]. UEQ analysis has also been conducted using geohazard potential [ 48 , 49 ]. Even though UEQ is a spatial-temporal index for urban management and planning, there are several examples of spatial models being implemented without regard to time.…”
