Geodynamics and Oil and Gas Potential of the Yenisei-Khatanga Basin (Polar Siberia)

Abstract: The geodynamic development of the north–western (Arctic) margin of the Siberian craton is comprehensively analyzed for the first time based on our database as well as on the analysis of published material, from Precambrian-Paleozoic and Mesozoic folded structures to the formation of the Mesozoic-Cenozoic Yenisei-Khatanga sedimentary basin. We identify the main stages of the region’s tectonic evolution related to collision and accretion processes, mainly subduction and rifting. It is demonstrated that the proto… Show more

“…In Taimyr, Permian coal bearing terrestrial sediments correlative with those in the Tunguska Basin, as well as early Paleozoic and older 49–54 sedimentary rocks (shales, limestones, marls) are present. These probably have high organic carbon contents comparable to what has been documented from the Tunguska Basin 55 .…”

“…The area between the two lineaments is occupied by Late Paleozoic and Mesozoic, predominantly clastic sedimentary rocks of the Yenisey-Khatanga Basin ( 8 ). The region is underlain by continuous permafrost about 700 m thick in the Yenisey-Khatanga Basin ( 9 ).…”

“…Ice-bonded permafrost is virtually impermeable for gases, leading to permafrost-capped gas reservoirs ( 9 ). In the hydrate stability zone, comprising the lower part of the permafrost and several 100 m below, methane and water form gas hydrate.…”

“…Временные сейсмогеологические разрезы по профилям Reg_1_АХС и Reg_2_АХС (индексы в белых овалахгеологический возраст, в желтых овалах -индексы отражающих горизонтов). рассмотрены в работах [Drachev et al, 2018;Vernikovsky et al, 2018]. Крупные события эволюции земной коры определяли общую геодинамическую обстановку.…”
