Geochronology, petrogenesis and metallogeny of Piaotang granitoids in the tungsten deposit region of South China

Abstract: The tungsten deposit region of South China is well known as the world's leading tungsten (W) producer. The Piaotang tungsten deposit in the region is such a representative large-scale quartz vein type tungsten polymetallic deposit that is closely associated with granitoids. In the present study we present precise LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb dating and LA-MC-ICPMS zircon Hf isotopic data for the samples from exposed quartz diorite body and buried granite stock in the Piaotang tungsten deposit area. Zircon U-Pb dating… Show more

“…It is worth mentioning that the 10,000 Ga/Al ratios (1.28-1.72) are less than those of typical A-type granites (N2.6; Whalen et al, 1987), although high Ga/Al values appear to be particularly diagnostic of A-type granites (Whalen et al, 1987), perhaps because such A-type granites may have undergone simple rather than extensive fractional crystallization. If extensive fractional crystallization occurred, there would be higher levels of Ga in highly evolved granites (Eby, 1992;He et al, 2010). Alternatively, the low values may be generated because the Ga analyzed by ICP-MS was undervalued in this study, just as high quality Ga data are rare in the published literature (Whalen et al, 1987).…”

“…The data acquisition for each analysis took 100 s (40 s on background and 60 s on signal). The detailed analytical procedures of the LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb dating are described by Yang et al (2011) and He et al (2010).…”

“…Details of the instrumental conditions and data acquisition can be found in He et al (2010) and Xie et al (2008), respectively. Various spot diameters (25, 30, 44 μm) were used during the analysis depending on the grain size of zircon.…”
