Inorganic and organic geochemical data obtained from contact-metasomatic and skarn-like mineralisation and associated country rocks from the Zloty Stok Au-As deposit in Southwest Poland have been studied. Magnetite-rich calcite-dolomite marbles have the highest total organic carbon content of the rocks studied. Organic matter consists of solid bitumen, with a minor extractable fraction composed mainly of low molecular weight aromatics. There are positive correlations between organic matter and Fe 2 O 3 and MgO content, suggesting remobilisation of organic matter by the hydrothermal fluids during serpentinisation processes. Results of the organic geochemical and isotope studies suggest that the hydrocarbons were formed by thermal and later hydrothermal alteration of indigenous organic matter. The ranges of d 34 S values of sulphides show that in Au-rich arsenopyrite and pyrrhotite, most of the sulphur may have originated from a magmatic source. However, some of results indicate a contribution from isotopically heavier sulphur, most probably associated with fluids derived from the metamorphic sedimentary environment. Rare earth element patterns of the mineralised samples point to a granitic source of the studied orebodies.

The proto-Alpine Cenerian orogen (Ediacaran-Ordovician) and the Cadomian orogen (Ediacaran-Cambrian), remnants of which are exposed in the central European Variscides, should be defined as two distinct and spatially separated coastal orogens within the Avalonian-Cadomian belt. The Cadomian orogen originally lay in front of the Sahara metacraton. It underwent a change from an active to a passive margin setting during the Cambrian. The Cenerian orogen, represented by intra-Alpine rocks, was located farther east near the Arabian Nubian Shield, from where it inherited a characteristic Tonian/Stenian detrital zircon signal. Subduction persisted in the Cenerian Orogen until the Ordovician. The Cadomian orogen was akin to Andean type whereas the Cenerian orogen was more akin to Alaskan type. This paper explores why the two orogens have such different characteristics and tectonic evolutions despite their probable proximity in the Avalonian-Cadomian belt. One explanation could be that they were at nearly right-angles to each other due to a strong concave bending of the northern Gondwana margin ahead of the Arabian-Nubian Shield.

Multistage magma emplacement and progressive strain accumulation in the shallow‐level Krkonoše‐Jizera plutonic complex, Bohemian Massif

[1] Field relationships combined with new U-Pb zircon geochronology suggest that the shallow-level Krkonoše-Jizera plutonic complex, northern Bohemian Massif, was assembled successively from bottom to top, starting with emplacement of the separately evolved S-type Tanvald granite (317.3 ± 2.1 Ma), followed by at least two voluminous batches of the I-type porphyritic Liberec (319.5 ± 2.3 Ma) and Jizera (320.1 ± 3.0 Ma and 319.3 ± 3.7 Ma) granites. The intrusive sequence was completed by uppermost, minor intrusions of the equigranular Harrachov (315.0 ± 2.7 Ma) and Krkonoše granites. The I-type granites exhibit an unusually complex pattern of superposed feldspar phenocryst and magnetic fabrics as revealed from the anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS). The outer Liberec granite preserves margin-parallel foliations and lineations, interpreted to record emplacement-related strain captured by cooling from the pluton floor and walls. In contrast, the inner Jizera, Harrachov, and Krkonoše granites were overprinted by synmagmatic strain resulting from dextral movements along regional strike-slip faults cutting the opposite ends of the plutonic complex. Late-stage felsic dikes in the Liberec and Jizera granites reorient from horizontal to vertical (lineation-perpendicular) attitude in response to changing the least principal stress direction, whereas mafic schlieren do not do so, representing only randomly oriented small-scale thermal-mechanical instabilities in the phenocryst framework. In general, this case example challenges the common approach of inferring pluton-wide magma flow from interpolated foliation, lineation, and schlieren patterns. More likely, magmatic fabrics in large plutons record complex temporal succession of superposed strains resulting from diverse processes at multiple scales.
