Geochemical contrasts between Late Triassic ore-bearing and barren intrusions in the Weibao Cu–Pb–Zn deposit, East Kunlun Mountains, NW China: constraints from accessory minerals (zircon and apatite)

Abstract: The Weibao copper-lead-zinc skarn deposit is located in the northern East Kunlun terrane, NW China. Igneous intrusions in this deposit consist of barren diorite porphyry (U-Pb zircon age of 232.0 ± 2.0 Ma) and ore-bearing quartz diorite and pyroxene diorite (U-Pb zircon ages of 223.3 ± 1.5 and 224.6 ± 2.9 Ma, respectively). Whole-rock major and trace element and accessory mineral (zircon and apatite) composition from these intrusions are studied to examine the different geochemical characteristics of orebearin… Show more

“…In addition, Ce/Ce* ≤ 100 is adopted to distinguish magmatic zircon. Zhong et al (2018a), and the compositions of the other phases (xenotime, monazite, titanite, and allanite) are from Bea et al (1996) (see Supporting Information I). The insets describe the relationship between Ce/Ce* and the mixing ratios of inclusions.…”

“…The REE concentration of unadulterated zircon is modeled after sample 524994 Zircon 76, the most primitive zircon grain from the case study reviewed in Section 5.3. The average REE concentration of apatite is fromZhong et al (2018a), and the compositions of the other phases (xenotime, monazite, titanite, and allanite) are fromBea et al (1996) (see Supporting Information I). “…Traditionally, whole‐rock geochemical studies of skarn deposits are mostly concentrated on the causative intrusions (e.g., Meinert et al ., 2005; Zhong et al ., 2018; Seo et al ., 2020), and only few studies have investigated whole‐rock geochemical data of the skarn bodies themselves (e.g., Jansson and Allen, 2015; Lefebvre et al ., 2019; Yıldırım et al ., 2019; Mrozek et al ., 2020). Similarly, the several whole‐rock geochemical studies dedicated to the Ruwai skarn deposit and surrounding area (e.g., Li et al ., 2015; Zaw et al ., 2015; Widyastanto et al ., 2019) are mostly focused on the petrogenesis of the intrusions and lack details on the skarnization processes.…”
