Geo-Temporal Signatures of Physicochemical and Heavy Metals Pollution in Groundwater of Khulais Region—Makkah Province, Saudi Arabia

Abstract: Seawater has intruded into many of Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coastal aquifers, with varying degrees of extension depending on location, hydrogeology, and population density. This study aimed to evaluate and comprehend the processes that influence the hydrogeochemical characteristics of the coastal aquifer in Saudi Arabia’s Khulais region. Groundwater samples were taken from nineteen locations during the winter and summer of 2021, and data from major ions and trace elements were examined and interpreted using ArcG… Show more

“…Groundwater and surface water are worsening [1][2][3][4][5][6]. Water consumption and demand in the industrial, municipal, and agricultural sectors in SA have skyrocketed as a result of recent developments [7,8]. Ouda et al [9] stated that the supply-demand gap was 11,423 million m 3 /year during 2010.…”

“…To date, numerous algal bloom models have been developed to analyse the key driving factors of harmful algal blooms (HABs). Most of these models used traditional data‐driven statistical models, such as linear regression, multiple linear regression and logistic regression, which are difficult to meet the requirements of current research (Khan et al, 2022; Wang et al, 2021). Besides, process‐based dynamic models often required lengthy calibration periods.…”

“…The recent advancements in SA have led to a significant increase in water use and demand across the industrial, municipal, and agricultural sectors [43,44]. According to the findings in [45], the disparity between supply and demand amounted to 11,423 million m 3 per year in 2010.…”
