As a trend in sustainable tourism, geotourism is being increasingly practiced, especially in territories that include geopark areas. Esta pesquisa abrangeu uma análise sobre as comunidades pesqueiras em diversas localidades, incluindo as Colônias de Pescadores Z-1 (São Francisco do Itabapoana), Z-2 (Atafona) e Z-26 (Italva). O objetivo principal foi compreender a atividade pesqueira da pesca artesanal, seus desafios socioambientais e fornecer insights valiosos com o potencial de orientar ações que promovam a sustentabilidade da pesca e melhorem as condições de vida das comunidades pesqueiras. Este estudo foi subdividido em seções, visto que, inicialmente, os dados pessoais dos pescadores foram coletados. Em seguida, as relações socioambientais e ambientais foram analisadas, incluindo a complexa ligação com o manguezal e percepções em relação aos efeitos prejudiciais da poluição sobre a pesca. Ademais, os entraves foram explorados, e dentre eles, a falta de infraestrutura ocupa um papel de destaque, seguida da falta de organização adequada no setor. Logo após, observou-se na caracterização da atividade pesqueira, diferenças significativas nas práticas entre as regiões, abordando também o meio flutuante em que operam e as artes de pesca variadas utilizadas. Posteriormente, as espécies de pescado capturadas foram apresentadas. E por fim, averiguou-se como funcionava a comercialização e o manejo dos resíduos da pesca.
