The article deals with the problem of increasing the durability of underground and buried buildings. One of the methods of solving this problem is ensuring the reliable protection of underground structures from the effects of water of different origin. Among the existing waterproofing coatings, mineral-based compositions are the most effective. However, the main disadvantage of such systems is the low crack resistance of hard coatings, which limits their applicability. We have made an attempt to develop a cement-based waterproofing material that would have high elasticity, strength, crack resistance and adhesion to a concrete base. We have conducted studies to justify the possibility of obtaining an effective waterproofing material by including microsilica and ethylene vinyl acetate in the mix. The optimal composition of the material was worked out. On the basis of the experimental data, the main physical and mechanical properties of the material were established. Based on the obtained results, it was found that the resulting material had high physical and mechanical characteristics and could be recommended for the protection of concrete structures used in underground construction.

This paper, based on the extensive data of studying the work of the tunnel collectors in conditions of soft soils and intense technogenic influences, describes new methods of diagnosing, the features of defects, and the results of modeling joint interaction of the “tunnel – soil bulk” as well as experimental data on experimental objects. The geotechnical methods for protecting the long‐operated tunnel collectors have been developed, and there has been given the unique experience of their application in the objects of St. Petersburg together with their monitoring support.

The article deals with the ensuring reliable protection of underground buildings and structures from groundwater influence. The analysis of existing methods and materials used in wall drainage systems is carried out. In order to improve the quality of construction and operation of underground structures, filtering drainage slabs made of polystyrene foam are proposed. To develop the design of slabs with longitudinal holes that increase their water permeability, the method of electro hydrodynamic analogies was used. Deformations of filtering slabs with holes with a diameter of 4 cm under the action of compressive loads exerted by backfill soil were investigated. Dependence of the compressive strength and water permeability of filtering slabs upon short-term (compressibility 10%) and long-term (compressibility 2%) loads is presented. Based on the results of the experiment, it is found that the obtained material has high filtration characteristics with sufficient strength and can be recommended for the protection of underground structures with a depth of up to 10 m.
