Genus Nocardiopsis: A Prolific Producer of Natural Products

Abstract: Actinomycetes are currently one of the major sources of bioactive secondary metabolites used for medicine development. Accumulating evidence has shown that Nocardiopsis, a key class of actinomycetes, has the ability to produce novel bioactive natural products. This review covers the sources, distribution, bioactivities, biosynthesis, and structural characteristics of compounds isolated from Nocardiopsis in the period between March 2018 and 2021. Our results reveal that 67% of Nocardiopsis-derived natural produ… Show more

“…The results are in line with reported data for Nocardiopsis species [17,55] especially for their active compounds that display antimicrobial activities. Among these antibacterial metabolites, 13 compounds were isolated from divers ecosystems, like deep-sea sponge and marine sediments in the period March 2018 to 2021, reported by Shi et al [56] exhibiting strong activity against MRSA which might be developed into new antibiotics, such as 1-acetyl-4-4(hydroxyphenyl) piperazine, angucyclines and p-terphenylquinones.…”

“…Terpenoids have often been extracted from marine organisms in recent years. They have important physiological activities and are important sources for developing new drugs and studying natural products [ 46 ]. Ectoine is an osmotic regulator that helps stabilize the structure of microorganisms and enables them to adapt to extreme environments [ 47 ].…”

“…Therefore, they produce a huge number of secondary metabolites with antitumor and antibiotic activity [ 28 , 36 ]. The main source of the majority of modern antibiotics of natural origin is actinobacteria, which can live in a variety of environmental conditions [ 37 , 38 , 39 , 40 ].…”
