Genre work: ‘How’ vs ‘what’ questions in the sociology of music culture

Abstract: The established conceptual frameworks in the sociology of music largely name forms of social collective, albeit emphasising different characteristics. ‘Scene’ and ‘neo-tribe’ are the principal contemporary examples of this.
