Genotypic response of barley to exogenous application of nanoparticles under water stress condition

Abstract: <p>Beneficial nanoparticles (SiO2 and TiO2) can have various profound effects on the crop physiological, biochemical and morphological characteristics. Here, we evaluated the mitigation of drought stress in barley genotypes by foliar application of SiO2 and TiO2 nanoparticles under filed condition in North West of Iran. Nanoparticles were foliar applied in late vegetative phase and during reproductive stages. Drought was imposed at by irrigation withdrawals during the dry months in the end of the growing… Show more

“…The use of an appropriate concentration of NP can increase the adaption of plants in stressful conditions [139]. For example in barley, drought tolerance was studied using the application of SiO 2 and TiO 2 nanoparticles during reproductive stages under field conditions [142]. The application of SiO 2 improved yield components under drought stress, while TiO 2 decreased the seed yield components at some concentrations [142].…”

“…However, the timely use of NPs can improve yield components, including seed productivity and healthy fruit. For example, foliar treatment of SiO 2 ‐NPs and TiO 2 ‐NPs to barley significantly improved seed weight and yield under drought (Ghorbanian et al, 2017). Mango ( Mangifera indica L.) trees in full bloom and 1 month after NaCl stress that received foliar treatment of ZnO‐NPs and Si‐NPs (50–150 ppm) responded positively in terms of growth, nutrient uptake, carbon assimilation, proline content and antioxidant enzyme activity, which markedly reduced flower malformation and seed abortion, improving annual fruit productivity (Elsheery et al, 2020).…”
