Genotoxic Effect and Oxidative Damage in the Chicken Embryo Caused by Bisphenol A

Abstract

The present study aimed to evaluate the Bisphenol A (BPA) effect on chicken embryos. 240 fertilized eggs of Ross 308 were divided into eight groups (n=30 for each), including two control groups. Embryos were injected on day 2 with 100 µl of increasing concentrations of BPA then dissected on days 21-22. The livers were removed from the chicken to evaluate DNA damage (using the PCR technique) and oxidative stress biomarkers. The results showed that BPA induces DNA damage and extensively increases oxidative stress. These confirmed that BPA can affect embryos at early stages by alteration in the genetic materials and changing liver enzymes.
