“…miR-430 has conserved zygotic expression in another teleost fish, medaka (Tani et al, 2010), and has sequence similarity to several other embryonic miRNAs, including miR-295 in mouse; miR-302, miR-327 and miR-516-520 in human (Chen et al, 2005; Giraldez, 2010); and miR-427 in Xenopus (Lund et al, 2009). miR-427 has similar expression dynamics to miR-430 in the early Xenopus embryo, and was likewise shown to mediate maternal clearance activity (Lund et al, 2009), while miR-302 was found to be activated by Pou5f1 and Sox2 in ES cells (Card et al, 2008).…”

“…Maternal mRNA stability, translation, and localization are the three features that determine control of early embryogenesis. miRNA expression profiling experiments have shown the probable role of miRNA in destabilization of maternal transcripts (Wienholds et al 2005; Tani et al 2010; Bizuayehu et al 2012a). mRNA degradation pathway through the miRNA mediation occurs after the MZT (Barckmann and Simonelig 2013).…”

“…In medaka ( Oryzias latipes ), a distantly related teleost, miR-430 is not as abundant as in zebrafish; however, the miR-430 family displays a conserved role in early embryogenesis. Interestingly, the miR-430 family members in medaka are located on chromosome 4, which is also where the majority of zebrafish miR-430 family members are encoded (Thatcher et al, 2008; Tani et al, 2009). The difference in abundance between these two distantly related species may indicate an increased importance for the miR-430 in zebrafish related to the levels of maternal transcripts, but the positional and functional conservation nonetheless demonstrates importance in both species.…”
