Genomewide association of male reproductive traits in Aksaray Malakli dogs

Abstract: Male reproductive parameters are often used for the functional examination and evaluation of predicted genetic values for future aspects. However, these traits are relatively reliable until the measurable effects are expressed on desired traits. Therefore, we aimed to associate the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) genotype of the investigated characteristics and reproductive loci. A total of 46 male dogs are divided into three age groups (I ≤ 3 years, n = 19; II 4-6 years; n = 19, and III ≥7 years, n = 8).… Show more

“…Studying heritabilities of semen traits, h 2 indexes were calculated to be 0.57 for percentage of normal motility, 0.14 for sperm concentration, 0.21 for percentage of live morphologically normal sperm and 0.47 for the total number of live morphologically normal sperm, suggesting that selective breeding could be applied for semen quality improvement (England, Phillips, & Freeman, ). Male fertility parameters related to genitalia morphology and semen quality can be defined as quantitative traits, where the influence of the genotype with the small effect of many loci on the phenotype sum up with environmental factors (İnanç et al, )..…”

“…This gene has an essential role in ciliary motility, and it affects the function of sperm flagella (Merveille et al, ). In addition, one intronic SNP of the autosome SFXN5 gene resulted significant for normal spermatozoa rate in Aksaray Malakli dogs in a GWAS (İnanç et al, ).…”
