Genome-Wide Identification of the LHC Gene Family in Kiwifruit and Regulatory Role of AcLhcb3.1/3.2 for Chlorophyll a Content

Abstract: Light-harvesting chlorophyll a/b-binding (LHC) protein is a superfamily that plays a vital role in photosynthesis. However, the reported knowledge of LHCs in kiwifruit is inadequate and poorly understood. In this study, we identified 42 and 45 LHC genes in Actinidia chinensis (Ac) and A. eriantha (Ae) genomes. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the kiwifruit LHCs of both species were grouped into four subfamilies (Lhc, Lil, PsbS, and FCII). Expression profiles and qRT-PCR results revealed expression levels of L… Show more

“…Although the LHC proteins in apples vary in length, the clustered LHC proteins share the same protein motif location and gene structure. It is consistent with previous studies at LHC family in the kiwifruit [53], which indicated that this family is highly conserved during evolution. The LHC gene is more widely distributed on the apple genome and is most abundant on chr.17 (Fig.…”

“…The higher expression of PSB genes under BL than under RL was also detected in Scots pine seedlings [ 50 ]. Previous studies found that LHC gene expression directly influences chlorophyll accumulation [ 51 , 52 , 53 ]. In our study, the total chlorophyll content in leaves has a similar change trend as the gene expression levels of MeLHCA1 and MeLHCA3 after BL or RL treatment.…”

“…Light-harvesting chlorophyll a/b-binding (LHC) proteins play indispensable roles in capturing solar energy during photosynthesis, photoprotection of photosystem II (PSII) and alleviation of oxidative stress caused by stress conditions ( de Bianchi et al., 2008 ; Luo et al., 2022 ). To study their contributions to low temperature stress, we identified a total of 45 LpLhc superfamily proteins in the L. perenne genome ( Table S12 ).…”
