Genome-Wide Identification and Characterization of JAZ Protein Family in Two Petunia Progenitors

Abstract: Jasmonate ZIM-domain (JAZ) family proteins are the key repressors in the jasmonate signaling pathway and play crucial roles in plant development, defenses, and responses to stresses. However, our knowledge about the JAZ protein family in petunia is limited. This research respectively identified 12 and 16 JAZ proteins in two Petunia progenitors, Petunia axillaris and Petunia inflata. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the 28 proteins could be divided into four groups (Groups A–D) and further classified into six … Show more

“…Under both biotic and abiotic stresses, cis -acting regulatory elements act as molecular switches that are closely related to the regulation of gene expression ( Tian et al, 2019 ). In the YABBY gene family, we found a large variety of cis -acting elements, many of which were associated with responses to GA and ABA hormones.…”

“…The decrease in the JAZ genes is due to the missing of one of the domains, or the addition of extra domains (VEFS and GATA) (Table S2 ). The true JAZ sequence should contain both TIFY and Jas domains 34 , 35 .…”

“…JAZ is one of the important defense gene families and it has been identified and functionally characterized in various plant species, including A. thalina 9 , Malus domesticus 32 , Camellia sinensis 33 , Brassica oleracea 34 , Petunia 35 and Triticum aestivum 36 . Yet, identification and functional characterization of JAZ has not been reported in sorghum to date.…”
