Genome Sequence of Enterococcus faecium Strain ICIS 96 Demonstrating Intermicrobial Antagonism Associated with Bacteriocin Production

Abstract: We report here the complete genome sequence of Enterococcus faecium strain ICIS 96, which was isolated from the feces of a horse. Bacteriological characterization of strain ICIS 96 revealed the absence of pathogenicity factors, while its spectrum of antagonistic activity was found to be broad, having activities associated with both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Analysis of the E. faecium ICIS 96 genome revealed five genes associated with antimicrobial activity (enterocin [ent] A, ent B, lactobin A/… Show more

“…Even though features of the various enterocins have been determined, genome information and details of the biosynthesis mechanisms have been unknown. Also, the genome information of enterocin-producing strains, including E. faecium ICIS 96 (Pashkova et al, 2018), E . faecium CRL1879 (Bonacina et al, 2017), and E .…”

“…As a result of a wide search for biotechnologically valuable crops among the representatives of this genus, we managed to isolate the culture Enterococcus faecium ICIS 96, a detailed description of which is presented in our work [12]. The strain was deposited in the Departmental collection of useful microorganisms for agricultural purposes of the DAS RAS as a promising one for inclusion in the composition of a probiotic feed additive.…”
