Genome Resource of Two Potato Strains of Ralstonia solanacearum Biovar 2 (Phylotype IIB Sequevar 1) and Biovar 2T (Phylotype IIB Sequevar 25) Isolated from Lowlands in Iran

Abstract: Ralstonia solanacearum, the causal agent of bacterial wilt and brown rot disease, is one of the major pathogens of solanaceous crops, including potato, around the globe. Biovar 2T (phylotype II/sequevar 25) of R. solanacearum is adapted to tropical lowlands and is only reported in South America and Iran. Thus far, no genome resource of the biovar 2T of the pathogen has been available. Here, we present the near-complete genome sequences of the biovar 2T strain CFBP 8697 as well as strain CFBP 8695 belonging to … Show more

“…Effective diagnostic tests capable of distinguishing between target and non‐target samples are needed to support regulative rules with some degree of confidence (Pritchard et al, 2016). Trade of solanaceous vegetables/crops is under strict control in Iran especially when it comes to transportation of seed lots (Ansari et al, 2019; Khojasteh et al, 2019; Osdaghi et al, 2022; Sedighian, Krijger, et al, 2020; Sedighian, Taghavi, et al, 2020). Rapid and accurate identification of seedborne bacteria is a critical issue in terms of both storage and international trade (Cigna et al, 2017).…”

“…The outbreaks caused by new isolates of the late blight oomycete Phytophthora infestans (Mont.) de Bary in Europe and the Americas ( Santana et al., 2013 ; Göre et al., 2019 ; Maurice et al., 2019 ), or by the new sequevars of bacterial wilt Ralstonia solanacearum found in Brazil, Peru and Iran ( Gutarra et al., 2017 ; Santiago et al., 2017 ; Sedighian et al., 2020 ) have the potential to destroy potato fields. Lack of resistance of the current potato cultivars to the main diseases that affect the crop makes it one of the most dependent crops on agrochemical applications ( Vleeshouwers et al., 2011 ).…”
