Genome Assembly of Serratia marcescens Type Strain ATCC 13880

Abstract: Serratia marcescens ATCC 13880 is the type strain of the species and a commonly used quality control strain. Here, we present the annotated genome assembly of 5.13 Mbp (59.8% G+C content) as submitted to NCBI under accession no. JOVM00000000.

“…marcescens Bizio (ATCC 13880) was obtained from the American Type Culture Collection and was the primary strain used in this study. The genome sequence of this strain has been recently published [ 29 ]. The non-pigmented, Drosophila isolate Db10 [ 30 , 31 ] was a gift from the lab of Dr. Jonathan J. Ewbank (Centre d’Immunologie de Marseille-Luminy, Université de la Méditerranée, Marseille, France).…”

“…37,38 S. marcescens is one of the pathogenic bacteria and many strains of this bacterium have been sequenced at genome and proteome levels. 10,18,20,22,[39][40][41] To the best of our knowledge, the genome of S. marcescens (ATCC 13880) sequence is available and the proteome of the same is not available till date. 10 Hence, this study was performed to understand the proteome of S. marcescens (ATCC 13880).…”

This strain was initially isolated from pond water and later known to be pathogenic to humans especially children and the immunocompromised patients in the ICU units.…”

“…Genes for monofunctional (HPII; katE, 478 aa) and bifunctional (HPI; katG , 731 aa) catalase have been sequenced in Serratia [34, 35]. Presumably, then, both constitutive and inducible forms of catalase operate in Serratia .…”
