Von altersher besch~ftigt die ~chkeit oder Un~hnlichkeit yon Kindern und Eltern deren Mitwelt. Schon im Gesicht des Neugeborenen sucht man den Vater. Auch in Rechtsstreiten gegen den Mann, der die Vaterschaft zu einem Kind nicht anerkennt, wurde seit lantern die J~bnlichkeit des Kindes mit ihm oft hervorgekehrt. Schon vor 35 Jahren, da ich mir die Sporen als irztlicher Sachverstindiger verdiente, luden die Gerichte in solchen Fillen einen ihrer stindigen Gerichts~rzte zu einem Augenschein. Damals erklirten wir gewShnlich, da6 bei einem so kleinen Kind die Vergleichung aussichtslos sei. Das war nicht durchaus richtig. Ausnahmsweise zeigen Kinder schon in den ersten Lebensjahren, ja sogar Siuglinge eine verbliiffende ~hnlichkeit mit ihrem Vater. Meist handelt es sich da um irgendeinen besonderen Zug. Eine kleine Geschichte, die Professor Werkgartner, zu diesen Fragen sp~echend, in Vortriigen mehrmals erz~hlt hat, mat das beleuchten. Er weilte, jung verheiratet, mit seinem damals 22 ~Ionate alten ersten Buben in Kirnten. Im selben Ort war zur gleichen Zeit ein Kollege, den er yon Obduktionen her kannte, ohne dai~ die beiden voneinander wul3ten. Eines Tages kommt dieser Kollege zu seiner Frau mit der Neuigkeit: ,,Denk Dir, der W. ist auch da." Er hatte ihr mehrmals yon Dr. W. crzihlt. Darauf sic: ,,Hast Du ihn getroffen ?" ,,DAM nicht." ,,Stcht er in der Kurliste ?" ,,Ich habe nicht nachgeschaut." ,,~Voher weil~t Dues denn dann ?" ,,Ich hab seinen Buben gesehen. Das kann nur der Bub yore W. gewescn sein." Und so war cs auch. Tats~chlich war das cine Ji~hnlichkeit, wie ich sie zwischen cinem kleincn Kind und seinem Vater sonst niemals gesehen habc. Sie blicb, langsam abnehmend, bis in die Jahre des Untergymnasiums erhalten. Jetzt erinncrt der schon an der Front stehende junge 5[ann im Gesamteindruck nicht bcsonders an seinen Vater. Im allgemcinen aber ist mit dem Gesamtaussehen in Vaterschaftssachen auch heute nicht viel anzufangen. Wir kommen darauf noch im einzelncn zurfick. i Herrn Professor Mere'el zum 70. Geburtstag gewidmct.
