Tigano-Milani (1995) proposed the hypothesis that more than one haplotype (clone) may be required to initiate and maintain an epizootic in a natural and heterogeneus insect population, such as the one found under Colombian conditions. The variability of the strains is the factor that would allow the fungus to adapt to changing environmental conditions and to successfully attack different insect populations.…”

“…Genomic DNA was extracted using a universal rapid salt method (Aljanabi & Martinez, 1997). The PCR reactions were performed in 30-µL volume, with 15 ng of each template, using the PTC-100 programmable thermal controller, and a temperature profile already described (Tigano-Milani et al, 1995). The amplifications were done using the following reaction mix: 1 unit of Taq polymerase, 1x Taq polymerase reaction buffer, 4 mM of MgCl 2 , 200 µM of each deoxynucleotides triphosphate, and 1 µM of 10-mer primer.…”
