Genetic Variability, Character Association and Path Aoefficient Analysis of Sweet Pepper (Capsicum Annuum L.) Germplasms

Abstract: The present investigation was carried out to investigate the genetic variability, character association, correlation and path coefficient analysis among thirty accessions of sweet pepper. Significant variations were observed for different morphological traits, yield and yield attributes among the accessions studied. For all the characters, genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) was smaller than phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV). The highest genotypic and phenotypic coefficients of variations were rec… Show more

“…Accordingly, five traits viz -fruit yield per plant, number of fruits per plant, capsaicin content, fruit length and fruit girth showed high heritability with high genetic advance and hence selection will be fruitful for these traits in early generations in ghost pepper. The present results were in agreement with the findings of Sharma, Semwal & Uniyal (2010) , Meena et al (2016) and Nagaraju et al (2018) in C. annum . High heritability with high genetic advance was also observed for fruit length and girth in ghost pepper ( Mena et al, 2019 ).…”

“…Direct positive effect of number of fruits on fruit yield of ghost pepper was also previously reported by Devi et al (2018) . Further, our results were similar to the findings of Sharma, Semwal & Uniyal (2010) , Bijalwan & Mishra (2016) and Vaishnavi, Khanm & Bhoomika (2017) in different Capsicum species. Therefore, number of fruits per plant should be taken as important selection criterion for the ghost pepper improvement programme.…”

“…All quantitative traits were found to differ significantly between genotypes and also between environments. Variations in growth and yield components have been reported in many studies (Sharma et al, 2010;Thul et al, 2009). Plant breeding activities are expected to be able to produce superior genetic material (Syukur et al, 2022b).…”
